G-FORCE wins title at Maryland State FTCs
BALTIMORE — G-FORCE, a local FIRST Tech Challenge Team, recently competed at the Maryland State FTC Championship at UMBC.
The team had fun competing with 51 other FTC teams in this year’s game, FIRST Rover Ruckus.
In addition to robot rounds, the team presented their season’s outreach accomplishments and robotic highlights to a judging panel.
G-FORCE finished as first seed team after five qualifying robot matches and as the alliance captain chose “Mechanical Paradox Cubed” (a Montgomery County team) and “Loading …” (a Garrett County team) to join their alliance.
This alliance played well together and won first place overall.
Co-pilot Sara Huelskamp, a member of the winning drive team, said, “Competing at the Maryland FTC Championship was an amazing way to connect with teams throughout our state.”
G-FORCE was awarded the first place Collins Aerospace Innovate Award.
The team was also recognized with the third place Inspire, Think, and Motivate Awards.
“Being the coach of this incredible drive team is an honor beyond words,” said Drive team coach Jarrett Miller said. “We look forward to representing our great state at the FIRST World Championship.
G-FORCE qualified and will attend the FTC World Championship in Detroit on April 24-27.
G-FORCE is a local community FTC team sponsored by GEARS and 4-H.
