Pinterest predictions for 2023 (Green Marketing)
Pinterest has released its predictions for 2023 and you should pay close attention to them.
Their track record is better than most prognosticators — they claim that for the last three years, 80 percent of their report predictions came true.
Let’s take a look at the Pinterest predictions that will have the most impact on green and growing businesses.
“Rust Married” is the first one that caught my eye as a great one for our industry. In this case, “rust” is a color not a corroding process and rust is actually “hues of terracotta, copper, and burnt sienna.”
They predict weddings in 2023 will be heavily using these colors and that is a terrific trend for those who sell plants.
I imagine small topiary herbs or shrubs planted in natural terra cotta pots marching down the center of formal table arrangements.
What is behind the trend? According to Pinterest, “orange is associated with optimism, adventure and creativity.”
And the folks at Garden Media Group also picked this hue as color of the year for 2023!
“Pool Pawties” continues the trend of Gen X and Boomers spoiling their pooches. This includes backyard pet pool parties. Folks are looking for instructions for creating doggie retreats and areas on their landscapes.
Searches for DIY dog areas in backyard are up 490 percent and DIY dog pool searches are up 85 percent.
If your business can provide them with plans, kits, installation, or maintenance of these projects, look at packaging them for these enthusiastic plant parents.
“Rainscapes” are going to be huge! According to Pinterest, “Green living has flourished, but in 2023, people will take water conservation to new heights.
And this doesn’t just apply to drought-stricken environments: Boomers and Gen X all over the globe will invest in rainwater harvesting, rain barrels, and drought-tolerant landscaping for natural ways to make their homes more sustainable.”
They are not only searching for practical solutions, they also want them to be beautiful too.
Searches for pretty rain chains and attractive rain barrels are way up.
“Wildflours” focuses on edible flowers and bring together the gardening trends with the baking/fancy cake decorating fads.
Pinterest says, “Gen X and Millennials are behind this trend that’s trading bouquets for bouqakes.
The apothecary aesthetic comes to the kitchen, with people of all ages tackling ambitious sweet treats like wildflower cupcakes and daisy desserts.”
On top of that searches for the “herbal apothecary aesthetic” were up +1025%! Think about adding organically grown herbs and flowers for use in culinary creations.
“Free Spirits” refers to fancy non-alcoholic drinks.
The trend includes setting up a mocktail bar, creative cocktail garnish ideas, and fancy ice cubes.
Again, fresh herbs and edible flowers can be used to elevate these offerings.
“Mush-rooms” are finding their way indoors with home décor options and into wearable fashions.
Fungi are fun and think about how you can translate mushrooms into a product that can be worn or used for decorations.
Finally, “Home Front” sees the resurgence of front porch enhancements.
“Rising searches suggest Boomers and Gen X will adorn their entrances with elaborate decor and embellishments,” according to Pinterest.
Searches are surging for front gardens and entryway transformations.
