‘This title has changed my life’
On Aug. 24, 2017, I was given the title of Miss Maryland Agriculture 2017. This title has changed my life in so many amazing ways.
It had been 49 years since Cecil County had a representative win the state title. Bringing this recognition back to my home county was such an honor for me.
I had always dreamed of representing farmers. For the week following last year’s contest, my phone exploded with well wishes and love from everyone back home and across the state.
I traveled back and forth from home to the state fair in 2017 to do multiple events.
Coming from a farming family, I have seen the struggles firsthand. I see the negativity towards farmers from the non-farming community and I want to change that.
I have made it my goal to help bridge the gap between consumers and farmers and this title has given me the opportunity to meet my goal. Throughout this past year I have done school lessons, communicated at fairs and attended statewide agriculture and legislative events. I have enjoyed every single event and opportunity I have been able to do. I was given a $13,000 scholarship when I won Miss Maryland Agriculture 2017 and it changed my college plans!
I’ve always known that I wanted to stay in agriculture when it came to my future career. Now that I have this amazing scholarship I plan to continue to promote agriculture by getting an agriculture communications degree. I have loved and enjoyed every single second of being Miss Maryland Agriculture 2017. Thank you to Maryland farmers for all that you do and for letting me represent you!
