Visit the Dairy Princess display at U-Learn Farm
Did you know that milk is Maryland’s official state beverage? As the 2018-19 Maryland Dairy Princess, I am excited to promote milk, cheese and yogurt at a variety of events throughout the year. I will educate consumers about where their dairy products come from and the nutritional benefits of these dairy products. Many people know that milk is an excellent source of calcium, but it is also a good source of eight other essential nutrients that our bodies need.
I love representing the hard-working dairy farmers that provide us with nature’s most perfect food. Getting your three servings of milk, cheese and yogurt everyday is the smart way to build a healthy body.
From growing up on my great-grandparents’ farm and being in 4-H and FFA, I know the importance of agriculture in our daily lives and I love to teach this to others. Since I was an 8-year-old 4-Her, I have taught others about dairy products through numerous demonstrations and workshops.
Some of my other 4-H activities include participating in the 4-H dairy bowl and dairy leasing program, where I lease a dairy animal from another farmer. Through the FFA milk quality and products and the dairy handling career development events, I have had more opportunities to take part in dairy-related activities and to teach that information to others.
During my year as the Maryland dairy princess, I will visit fairs, schools and other events promoting the dairy industry. I am the most excited about visiting schools because I love to work with children! There is nothing more satisfying then seeing children learn something new about their delicious glass of milk, slice of cheese or cup of yogurt and the dairy cows that make these nutritious foods possible.
You can visit me at the dairy princess display in the Maryland State Fair’s U-Learn Farm, which is located in the Cow Palace. Our display will have fun dairy giveaways and games to play. Don’t forget to pick up some nutritious and delicious dairy recipes to enjoy at home! Other places you may find me at the Maryland State Fair include handing out ribbons at the dairy shows or in the 4-H/FFA Home Arts Building demonstrating how to make some delicious dairy dishes as part of several 4-H contests.
I look forward to meeting all of you at the 137th Maryland State Fair and here is a recipe for you to make at home with your friends and family!
